I Got Hipped was one of the first long-term and big internal projects for Blue Dane Production and our sister company Blue Dane Records. The project was to create a concept album with the Danish artist Chris Copen. The album’s concept was to celebrate the legacy of New Orleans music – with a focus on the Rhythm & Blues and funk era.
It was essential for Chris Copen and us that you would get an idea of the history and idea behind the album throughout the final product. That meant the album cover, inline notes, and PR content should reference New Orleans’s history and culture.
We decided that the cover should not contain a photo of Chris himself but a drawing of some of the elements that represent New Orleans. Also, it was impossible to photograph Chris Copen in New Orleans due to Covid-19 and travel restrictions.
From sketch to cover
Down below, you can see the transformation from the sketch of the piano to the final drawing. The piano is hand drawn on a tablet using Adobe Fresco. The drawing contains elements from New Orleans culture and history.
As a part of the production, BDP made a bunch of Mock-ups to show how the end product would tun out. The mock-ups has been used on Blue Dane Records website as product pictures and for SOME post and campaings.
